Shredded Papers Make Good Mulch

by Joan W.
( Somerset, Massachusetts, USA)

Since I have a Shaklee Distributorship, I end up with a lot of office-type paper that at the end of the year needs to be shredded: old checks, old information that contain credit card numbers, and sensitive material I don't want anyone else to have. I keep a Mail Mate shredder underneath my desk. I shred any envelopes, paper, and sensitive material right away and put it in bags.

Then when it comes time to dig my garden, with each shovel full I put a small layer of shredded paper in it.

In the hot summer, I spread a thin layer of this shredded paper around the plants and then put mulch or soil over it to lessen the weeds.
